Hi! I'm Shannon.
In 2015 I started turning thrifted wool and cashmere sweaters into mittens for friends and family. People started asking to buy them and Yarn + Kind was born. Hundreds of pairs later, I've refined my pattern to ensure that each pair fits well and lasts for years. Then I added cowls and earwarmers to my collection. Every piece still starts life as a sweater that deserved a second chance and is made by me. With love and care.
Yarn + Kind is the cozy little sister of Wardrobe Tender, my slow fashion community, where the philosophy is all about choosing garments with care and caring for what you own.

How do I care for my Yarn + Kind products?
Every piece is pre-washed and built for durability. You wash your mittens, cowls and headbands in your washing machine on the delicate or handwash cycle, with cold water and gentle detergent. Lay flat to dry on a fluffy towel. Easy peasey!
Do you offer custom designs?
Yes, I do. I can take a special sweater or blanket and turn it into a beautiful pair of Memory Mittens. Hit the contact button on this page and let's discuss!
Where can I buy Yarn + Kind products?
Currently, you can buy Y+K directly by contacting me through this website, via my Instagram or on Etsy (sorry - can't currently ship to the USA). Otherwise, our exclusive retailer is Caico Mae in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
